End of 2006 Wrap-Up

December 20th, 2006

As 2006 draws to a close, Charles River Web Connections (CRWC) would like to like to provide you with an overview of the past year.

New Services

File Management System
One of the most exciting advances for CRWC this year was the development of a fully customizable, secure online File Management System. Already in place for Crossman Engineering, this system connects the Crossman engineers to their clients at Brooks and Eckerd Pharmacies as well as the rest of their clientele via web-based file transfers. CRWC hopes to extend this service to other companies as a business solution for sharing large amounts of data that would be difficult to forward otherwise.

Classmate Location Service

Along with CRWC’s work on creating five unique websites for the Cornell University Alumni Classes of 1973, 1975, 1978, 1982 and 1985, the company has entered into a new role for the University— we will now assist the Alumni Affairs office in locating Cornell Alumni with bad addresses. This is also a service that we would like to expand, and offer as a new service to our clients.

Website Development Projects

CRWC has begun to incorporate the newest programming languages as XHMTL, XML, and Ruby on Rails (RoR).

NETRA

Expansion of the New England Trail Riders Association (NETRA) website –built using RoR— was another major project for CRWC in 2006. Updates have been implemented to increase quantity and ease of communication between members and officials. Additions included the ability for event results to be posted through a form online, automatic calculation of ranking based on posted event results, and a members-only section where members can log in to change their personal data and check their rankings and promotion points. CRWC has also enhanced on-site forum capabilities, and made it easier for officials to post news and changes to events.

Rooms To Grow

Over the course of 2006, the CRWC team completed work on the website for Rooms to Grow, a Rhode Island children’s furniture company, providing potential clients access to the quality furniture and services that Rooms to Grow provides.

This has been a promising fourth year for CRWC. Connecting businesses to clients through well-designed websites has been, and continues to be the most important objective in all of Charles River Web Connections’ endeavors. The CRWC team looks forward to providing continued quality service to you in the future.

NETRA Database Online

July 24th, 2006

NETRA RiderCharles River Web Connections (CRWC) has recently launched the next phase in the database management system for New England Trail Riders Association (NETRA), according to R.J. Sherman, CRWC Director. “In this long anticipated phase, NETRA members will be able to log onto the members’ only section of the website, update their personal data, and check their rankings and promotion points. In the meantime, NETRA officers and race officials can post news of events (such as cancellations and time/date changes) in a more efficient, timely manner.” Sherman indicated. “Manual compilation of the overall season standings and promotion points are a thing of the past, as the system automatically calculates the rankings when an event’s results are posted.” The creation of this system will free NETRA’s executive director and staff from the data input function and allow them to pursue other activities that the NETRA Board has identified as priorities.

Cornell Alumni Classes Meet the Web

July 12th, 2006

Cornell University LogoCharles River Web Connections (CRWC) is pleased to announce that it has now been retained to create the websites for 5 Cornell University alumni classes: 1973, 1975, 1978, 1982 and 1984. “We are excited to support Cornell in this manner. Each of these classes represents a challenge, as it is in a different place in the five year cycle that occurs between reunions.” says RJ Sherman, CRWC Director. “The emphasis in each year is slightly different, building up to and culminating in the 5th year when all focus is on encouraging alumni classmates to attend their reunion.” Additional challenges for the CRWC web team have been the need “to maintain common standards and branding of the university while creating individually distinctive sites, and working with volunteer webmasters and class officers.”

NETRA Website Update

January 28th, 2006

NETRACharles River Web Connections (CRWC) announces the completion of the newly designed and expanded website for NETRA (New England Trail Riders Association) (www.netra.org) As NETRA and off-road motorcycle riding have grown in recent years, NETRA leaders realized the need for a site which more accurately reflected the purpose of the organization, provided up to date information on events throughout the season, and offered its members and other site visitors links to affiliated clubs and organizations. In addition, race results and calendars are maintained on the site. “The NETRA site,” according to R.J. Sherman, CRWC director, “was challenging because of the volume of information which needed to be easily available. However, it was also creatively exciting, as we designed a site which reflects the nature of trail riding.”

CRWC has recently been retained to expand on the website development of NETRA by revamping the computer systems of the organization and to provide web-based database management, e-commerce for membership and products, and the enhancement of the forum capabilities on the site.
